Variety is currently running a fun alternative to real-world politics — a poll to “elect” the public’s favorite TV president. While the poll is ongoing, the results at this point are so one-sided that we’re prepared to declare a winner: Josiah “Jed” Bartlet from “The West Wing,” played by Martin Sheen.
The character was the runaway leader with just over 51% of the vote among five candidates when we checked in this morning. The race for second was tight, with Frank Underwood of “House of Cards,” played by Kevin Spacey, holding a narrow lead over Selina Meyer of “Veep,” played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Underwood had 12.83% of the vote this morning to Meyer’s 12.25%.
The others on the ballot are David Palmer of “24,” played by Dennis Haysbert, who was at 10.78% this morning, and Fitzgerald Grant III of “Scandal,” played by Tony Goldwyn, who trailed with 7.4%. There’s also an “other” category, which had only 5.36%.
