A series that just landed on Netflix wastes little time getting into subject matter that some viewers may find shocking. Decider reports that the show, the racy costume drama “Versailles,” has already caused a “ruckus” in Great Britain with its first season.

“The first episode alone had scenes of nudity, straight sex, gay sex, cross-dressing, oral sex, a lusty queen with a thing for little people, oh, and torture,” Decider reports.

“While many viewers fell hard for Versailles‘ lush look at the life of Louis XIV, conservatives condemned the program and some people likened it to pornography,” the report adds.

Created by Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft, the period piece stars George Blagden as Louis XIV. Other cast members include Alexander Vlahos, Tygh Runyan, Stuart Bowman, Amira Casar and Sarah Winter.

Season one has already aired in the U.S., on Ovation, but is expected to reach a much wider audience on Netflix. Season two will bow on the BBC in 2017, and a third season has already received the green light.

“The first season follows the young king’s unique power move over the French nobility: He moves the court from the capital of Paris to his own hunting lodge at Versailles,” Decider reports. “There, both the king and the nobles encounter intrigue, danger, and, yes, lots of sex.”
