Amazon announced today that it has acquired a new project from executive producer Martin Scorsese and director Amir Bar-Lev — the Grateful Dead documentary “Long Strange Trip.”

The four-hour film will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and will debut May 26 on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. and the U.K.

It will air on the streaming service as a six-part documentary.

Amazon describes the project in its announcement as “a groundbreaking documentary that probes the creative forces, subversive ambitions, and interpersonal dynamics that drove the Grateful Dead in their 30-year quest for moments of collective inspiration.”
