After 33 cycles of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” the ABC reality franchise is about to name its first black lead. Rachel Lindsay will be announced tonight on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” as the next Bachelorette, according to media reports.

The show’s creator, Mike Fleiss, has been promising on his Twitter account that a “historic” announcement is coming. On Sunday, Fleiss tweeted: “We’ve decided to let our friend @jimmykimmel make the historic announcement during tomorrow night’s show. #thebachelor”

E! News notes that tonight’s expected announcement comes as six women remain on the current season of “The Bachelor” — including Lindsay.

“The 31-year-old attorney from Dallas, Texas, will be the first black Bachelorette or Bachelor in the series’ history,” E! reports. “Viewers have been calling her out as the next Bachelorette since the season began, but the announcement is not usually made this early on in the season, and especially not before the contestant in question has been eliminated from the current season.”
