“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator and “Avengers” director Joss Whedon will be the driving force behind a standalone “Batgirl” movie. Variety reports that Whedon is close to a deal to write, direct and produce the Warner Bros. project.
“No other producers are currently attached,” Variety notes. “Toby Emmerich, president and chief content officer of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, is overseeing with Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. The new project originated in the past month.”
It will be the first time the popular Batgirl superhero will have her own movie, and will follow another female DC superhero movie, “Wonder Woman,” which opens June 2.
