Fox News has what’s being called a “major advertising revolt” on its hands in the wake of reports of sexual harassment settlements by the cable channel’s star, Bill O’Reilly. The New York Times reports that six more marketers pulled their advertising from his program, bringing the total to eight that have suspended their sponsorship in the past 24 hours.

Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai announced their decisions Monday night, and on Tuesday they were joined by BMW of North America; GlaxoSmithKline; Allstate; Constant Contact, an online marketer; Untuckit, a men’s clothing distributor; and Sanofi Consumer HealthCare, which advertised products like ACT mouthwash on Mr. O’Reilly’s show,” The Times reports.

The moves follow news of settlements totaling about $13 million with women who accused O’Reilly of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior.

Meanwhile, the National Organization for Women called on Fox News to fire O’Reilly. The organization also wants an independent investigation into the culture at Fox News, The Times reports.

“If more advertisers leave Mr. O’Reilly’s program, Fox News and its parent company, 21st Century Fox, may be forced to respond,” The Times notes. “Mr. O’Reilly, 67, is the network’s most visible star, leading a prime-time programming slate that draws record ratings with its conservative commentary.”

  1. LOCK HIM UP!

  2. Money talks, and in this case, it may be the rationale for O’Reilly’s dismissal rather than retention. Anywhere else, he would be done. I still remember the audio messages years ago from a woman he was stalking. Creepy, uncomfortable and disgusting.

  3. It seems to me that in this day and age, O’Reilly behavior is virtually “presidential.”
