Fox News fixture Sean Hannity, who lost advertisers in a controversy over his coverage of a conspiracy theory about the death of DNC staffer Seth Rich, is fighting back. Fortune reports that Hannity is backing a campaign targeting advertisers on rival Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show.

Hannity reportedly said today on his radio show: “I don’t see any other option but to fight fire with fire.”

“Hannity brought the co-founders of Media Equality Project, the group now targeting Maddow, onto his show to discuss their new campaign — which comes one day after the liberal organization Media Matters shared a list of Hannity’s advertisers and their contact information, leading some to drop support for his show, according to the Washington Post,” Fortune reports.

Said Hannity: “What we are doing is just wording it the same way Media Matters did. We are just saying, two can play this game.”

Media Equality Project has reportedly published a list of companies that advertise on Maddow’s show, along with their contact information.

  1. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

  2. It’s hard to get people who believe in facts to boycott the truth. On the other hand, Hannity and his ilk foist conspiracy theories and “alternative facts” like most of the rest of Fox News, and aren’t always “accurate.” In this case Hannity was continually pushing an already debunked theory and causing considerable pain to a family over and over again. See the difference?

  3. I’m sure this will be as successful as when the right boycotted Disneyland and Disneyworld over a gay character in Beauty and the Beast. It is so sad to drive by the parks now and see them boarded up and covered with tumbleweeds.

  4. Working with advertisers like I do, I can tell you they are shifting their money away from any news programming. This attitude from both sides is not conducive to advertisers. You may find the news networks boarded up soon.
