Cosby Jury Asks About Reasonable Doubt, Quaaludes

The jury in the Bill Cosby criminal trial, which is deliberating for the fifth day and has already said it is deadlocked and unable to reach a decision — prompting the judge in the case to urge the jurors to try again — has asked the court for more information on a number of topics. Among them, CNN reports, the jury asked: “What is reasonable doubt?”

“Jurors also asked to rehear Cosby’s deposition about acquiring Quaaludes, the third time that parts of Cosby’s statements were re-read to the jury during deliberations,” CNN reports. “After almost 41 hours of deliberations, the jury’s questions leave open the possibility that jurors may remain deadlocked and unable to reach a unanimous verdict on any of the three counts of aggravated indecent assault that Cosby faces.”

The defense team again asked for a mistrial today, with Judge Steven O’Neill rejecting the request. “I’m going to allow this to go as long as this jury wishes to continue to deliberate,” O’Neill said today.

“If there is a mistrial, Cosby would not be considered guilty or not guilty, and prosecutors may choose to retry the case with a different set of jurors,” CNN notes. “Still, that would represent a major win for Cosby’s team, which has argued that the case never should have reached court.”

  1. This is sickening. Blacks never seem to convict one of their own even if they are guilty as sin.

    A) how do you know it’s a black juror that’s the hold out?
    B) perhaps blacks are reluctant to summarily convict anyone because they’ve seen a justice system that convicts even when you aren’t guilty.
    C) unless you have heard every minute of testimony, you have no idea what you’re talking about. News reports can contain information that are not entered into or permitted as evidence at trial. So if you are relying solely on news reports, or your own prejudice, then you’re out of step with what’s going on in court.
    D) while I strongly suspect Cosby is the dirt bag rapist he has been accused of being, I don’t know for sure. That’s what trials are for.
