A TV personality who became a celebrity through appearances on MTV was found dead on Monday. TMZ.com reports that Danny Dias, an alum of MTV reality shows, died in an apparently drug-related incident.
The report notes that authorities are treating Dias’ death as a possible suicide after finding two vertical lacerations on his forearm. Dias, 34, was found in his Brooklyn apartment.
Dias appeared on season 13 of MTV’s “Road Rules,” “Road Rules: X-Treme,” which was set in South America and aired in 2004. He went on to appear on season 11 of the MTV series “The Challenge,” “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Gauntlet 2,” airing in 2005.
“We’re told Dias was at his Brooklyn apartment Saturday with a friend. Law enforcement sources say the friend told them he saw Dias take what he believed was LSD and mushrooms. The friend says Dias freaked out, ran in his room and that was the last the friend saw of him,” TMZ reports.
The friend reportedly called 911 after being unable to reach Dias over the next two days. “First responders had to force their way in,” TMZ reports. Dias was reportedly declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
People reports that after his run on reality television, Dias worked in finance, studied acting and co-founded Generation Cure, an AIDS research charity.
