Readers may be surprised to learn that National Doughnut Day, celebrated on the first Friday in June, goes all the way back to 1938, when the day was established as a fund raiser for the Salvation Army in Chicago.
Regardless, if you ever needed an excuse to eat a doughnut, National Doughnut Day — sometimes spelled National Donut Day — should provide that excuse.
In honor of the occasion, check out the S’morrissey, a creation of L.A.-based Donut Friend. The company’s website describes the limited-edition delicacy as “a chocolate cake donut filled with toasted marshmallows and topped with chocolate glaze and graham cracker crumbs.”
