A number of Viacom cable channels announced today that they are working together to present “An Inconvenient Week” during the week of July 31, with programming including the MTV town hall “An Inconvenient Special,” featuring Al Gore, Fat Joe and Steve Aoki.
The special airs Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, and is part of an effort to reach out in particular to younger viewers on the issue of climate change. The programming moves are in connection with Gore’s “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power,” a sequel to his 2006 climate change documentary “An Inconvenient Truth.”
Ten Viacom cable channels — MTV, VH1, LOGO, Comedy Central, Spike, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick@Nite and Teen Nick — are supporting the initiative through their on-air, social and digital outlets.
“In a February 2017 study among MTV viewers aged 16 to 26, the network discovered that 70 percent of viewers are worried about environmental protections under the Trump administration,” the announcement notes.
Said Gore: “Young people are one of the greatest reasons for hope that we can and will solve the climate crisis, and I am thrilled to participate in ‘An Inconvenient Special’ to listen to their ideas, hopes, and concerns, as well as learn about some of their amazing work on behalf of the planet.”
