A program airing this month reunites the cast of a reality show that polarized viewers and became a political issue for the state of New Jersey. E! announced plans to reunite the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” for “Reunion Road Trip: Return to the Jersey Shore.”

The special airs Aug. 20 on E!, with Snooki, JWoww, Pauly D, Mike The Situation and Sammi Sweetheart all on board for a trip down memory lane.

The original show aired from 2009 to 2012 on MTV. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made the reality show something of a cause celebre, targeting it for what he considered its less-than-flattering portrayal of the state. Christie followed up on his criticism of the show by vetoing a $420,000 tax incentive for the program in September 2011.

Christie was quoted saying at the time: “As chief executive, I am duty-bound to ensure that taxpayers are not footing a $420,000 bill for a project which does nothing more than perpetuate misconceptions about the state and its citizens.”

  1. Didn’t care the first time, sure as hell don’t care now. This is a reason why people are getting dumber and dumber. (Or is is dumberer?)

  2. Amen Gilbert !! What a sad state the entertainment industry is in when they have to keep recycling programming from the past, because they can’t come up with anything better. I would love to hear the chatter in the room. “Hey, let’s try something really wild ! I mean, really, really, “out there.” Let’s get the cast from Jersey Shore back together and we’ll call it “Reunion Road Trip: Return to the Jersey Shore!!”
    Good grief !!

  3. “Fat, dumb and stupid is no way to go through life….”
