Paul Ryan to Hold Town Hall on CNN

House Speaker Paul Ryan has booked the first town hall meeting in his congressional district that will be open to the general public in nearly two years.

The AP reports that the event will take place Aug. 21 in Racine, Wis. CNN is organizing the event, which will be hosted by Jake Tapper and televised live on CNN.

Residents of Ryan’s congressional district in southeast Wisconsin can request tickets from CNN, with the network to determine who will ask questions, the report notes.

“Republican and Democratic opponents have criticized Ryan for not holding a public town hall since October 2015. Ryan has defended himself by saying he doesn’t want opponents from outside his district bused in to disrupt any such meeting,” the AP reports. “Ryan has instead opted to hold invite-only town halls at businesses in his district and over the telephone.”

  1. Interesting. Ryan will be holding the meeting the day of the total solar eclipse. Is Ryan going to be eclipsed? Southern WI will only see ~85% lunar blockage. Me, I’ll be in Chester, IL.

  2. Somewhat telling that he’s chosen CNN as the host. Tell us again how FOX is respected as an unbiased source for bipartisan, real news by the majority of America. All outlets use spin, but only one of them needs to be deliberately avoided in order not to look like a cowardly joke of a Speaker, seeking to be coddled during the town hall meeting.
