A 1993 feature film that developed a cult following is being brought to TV with an all-new cast. Deadline reports that the Disney Channel is in the early stages of a remake of “Hocus Pocus.”

The original Disney feature starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the villainous but lovable Sanderson sisters — witches who accidentally become resurrected in Salem, Mass.

“The new take is being written by Scarlett Lacey (‘The Royals’), with David Kirschner, producer on the original movie, on board to executive produce,” Deadline notes.

The new project will reportedly have an all-new cast, along with a new director. Deadline notes that Kenny Ortega, who directed the 1993 feature, has directed Disney Channel’s two biggest TV movie franchises, “High School Musical” and “Descendants,” but is not involved in the “Hocus Pocus” project.
