ABC is bringing back “Roseanne” with the sitcom’s original cast — and according to a new teaser released on Christmas Day, that cast will include John Goodman, even though his character, Dan Conner, supposedly died at the end of the show’s original run.
The teaser, which you can watch below, notes that the series, which gets an eight-episode reboot, is set to premiere March 27. The show comes from executive producers Roseanne Barr, Sara Gilbert, Tom Werner, Bruce Helford, Whitney Cummings and Tony Hernandez.
The network noted that the cast includes Barr (Roseanne), Goodman (Dan), Gilbert (Darlene), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Michael Fishman (D.J.) and Lecy Goranson (Becky), with Sarah Chalke, who played the character Becky in later seasons, set to return in a new role.
“When it premiered on ABC, the series broke new ground for its realistic portrayal of a working-class family, the Conners, barely scraping by in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois,” ABC notes in promo material accompanying the new teaser. “It also dominated the ratings as one of the highest-rated television series on the air for its near-decade run.”
The original series, which ran nine seasons on ABC, “won a Peabody Award and a Golden Globe Award for best television series (comedy or musical),” the network adds. “Barr and Goodman each won Golden Globes for best performance by an actress and actor. Barr went on to win an Emmy as lead actress, and Metcalf won two supporting actress Emmys for her work on the series.”
