Why John Oliver Feels He Failed in His Confrontation With Dustin Hoffman

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver is calling his infamous confrontation with actor Dustin Hoffman a failure, saying during an appearance on the U.K. comedy news program “The Russell Howard Hour” that “the whole thing just made me feel sad.”

The confrontation took place when Oliver grilled the Oscar-winning actor about allegations of sexual harassment during a Tribeca Film Institute panel discussion earlier this month. Footage of the clash, some of which you can see by clicking here, went viral.

“It wasn’t ideal that it became such a big story because then it became about my questions rather than his answers,” Oliver told Howard on the British show. “The questions weren’t particularly remarkable, but his answers were kind of not great.”

Oliver also said: “I tried and failed.”

A number of women have come forward with allegations against Hoffman during the past two months, as we reported previously.
