Veteran TV Critic David Bianculli Gives His Picks for the Best TV of 2017

The best TV show of the past year, according to veteran television critic David Bianculli, is AMC’s “Better Call Saul.” The “Fresh Air” critic also has “Godless,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Fargo” on his list, which is detailed in an interview published by NPR.

According to Bianculli, 2017 was a good year for TV.

“Except it was an overwhelming year,” Bianculli says. “I think this is the year I finally gave up saying, I’ve got to watch everything. I can’t.”

Lamenting that he can’t place 20 or 30 shows on his year-end list, Bianculli nonetheless narrows it down to 10. In the No. 2 spot below “Saul” is the Netflix Western “Godless,” followed by “Curb Your Enthusiasm” at No. 3, “Fargo” at No. 4 and “Legion” at No. 5.

Netflix’s “Mindhunter” clocks in at No. 6, followed by “Black Mirror” at No. 7, FX’s “The Americans” at No. 8 and NBC’s “The Good Place,” the only broadcast show on the list, at No. 9.

Tied for No. 10 are HBO’s “Big Little Lies” and “The Deuce” along with Hulu’s “Handmaid’s Tale.”
