The long-running Fox animated series “The Simpsons” is about to set a major telvision record when it airs its 636th episode later this month. At that point the series will pass vintage TV Western “Gunsmoke” to rank as the longest-running scripted prime-time show in TV history.
“Gunsmoke” aired 635 episodes during its 20-season run on CBS, from 1955-1975.
Fox announced that the milestone installment of the series will be an episode titled “Forgive and Regret.”
The network offered this description of the episode: “Grampa makes a confession to Homer while on his deathbed. After his recovery, he comes to realize that this issue will not be easy to reconcile.”
The voice cast for the series includes Dan Castellaneta as Homer Simpson; Julie Kavner as Marge Simpson; Nancy Cartwright as Bart Simpson and Nelson; Yeardley Smith as Lisa Simpson; Hank Azaria as Moe; Harry Shearer as Skinner; Tress MacNeille as Dolph; and Pamela Hayden as Milhouse.
