A comedy series that premiered on cable earlier this month got off to a strong ratings start, with Paramount Network announcing that “American Woman” now ranks as ad-supported cable’s highest-rated half-hour scripted series premiere in adults 18-40, women 18-49 and women 25-54 since early January.

“The premiere registered a solid .63 P18-49 rating, soaring even higher with women to garner a strong .90 with W18-49 and a notable 1.02 with W25-54,” Paramount Network noted, adding: “‘American Woman’ was the #1 most social comedy series in prime on Thursday night (Nielsen Social). Additionally, 66% of the ‘American Woman’ audience consisted of new viewers who had not watched the channel during the prior seven days.”

The series, the new Paramount Network’s first scripted comedy, premiered Thursday, June 7. Inspired by the life of Kyle Richards, the series stars Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Bartels.
