Beloved Misfit Movie Highlights Retro-Themed Marathon — Which Also Features the Return of ‘Night Flight’

For those who remember the late-night programming block “Night Flight,” the news in the announcement by IFC about an upcoming programming marathon may be the return of “Night Flight” — even if it’s just for one night. For everyone else the headline is probably the back-to-back airings of “The Goonies.”

“It’s time to practice your Truffle Shuffle and journey back to the glorious, sequin-covered and alt-rock lovin’ 1980s,” IFC says in today’s announcement. “Join IFC this Thursday, August 23rd, for a retro-inspired evening featuring everyone’s favorite swashbuckling group of misfits (and a short-shorts wearing Josh Brolin before he made half the planet disappear with the snap of his fingers) in ‘The Goonies,’ followed by a marathon of the cult, late-night acid trip of a TV series, ‘Night Flight.'”

Here’s the schedule for Thursday, Aug. 23:

6:30PM – The Goonies

9:00PM – The Goonies

11:30PM – Night Flight Marathon

1:30AM – Night Flight Presents: Dr. Ruth Good Sex Special

IFC adds this: “Starting at 6:30PM, tune in for a double-airing of ‘The Goonies,’ the beloved 1985 film following a group of friends who embark on a treacherous adventure after they stumble upon a mysterious treasure map. After that quest comes to an end, stay tuned for even more ’80s nostalgia with a two-hour marathon of ‘Night Flight,’ IFC’s revival of the cult-favorite series from the decade that fuses together mind-bending videos, animated shorts and appearances from iconic stars including David Bowie, Lou Reed, John Waters, KISS and more.

“The marathon continues with ‘Night Flight Presents: Dr. Ruth Good Sex Special,’ starring the most badass sex therapist of her time as she engages in late-night therapy sessions, hosts stimulating conversations with celebrity guest stars, and delivers provocative bedroom advice.”
