A Marilyn Monroe nude scene that was thought to have been destroyed was found after 57 years, the U.K. publication The Daily Mail reports. The love scene between Monroe and Clark Gable was filmed for the 1961 release “The Misftits,” Monroe’s last movie, but wound up on the cutting room floor.

It would have marked the first nude scene featuring an American actress, had it been released with the film, the report notes. The scene has Monroe dropping the bedsheet and exposing her body.

“But director John Huston refused to include it, insisting on a retake, and the risque footage was thought to have been destroyed,” The Daily Mail reports. “Now, more than half a century later, the author of a forthcoming Monroe biography has discovered that it has survived.”

“Charles Casillo interviewed Curtice Taylor, son of the film’s producer Frank Taylor, and was taken aback to learn that he has kept the footage in a locked cabinet since his father’s death in 1999,” the story reports.

Curtice Taylor is quoted in the report saying: “A lot of times, unused takes were destroyed. But Frank Taylor believed that it was so important and so ground-breaking that he saved it.”

“The Misfits,” filmed in 1961 and written by Monroe’s then husband Arthur Miller, was her last completed movie. She died the following year from an overdose of sleeping pills.

The recovered footage reportedly lasts about 45 seconds and includes sound. It has not been determined what will be done with the footage.

  1. Yeah I’m sure the guy saved it just because it was so “important and ground-breaking”. That’s why I saved all those classic Playboys too as a young man, those articles were *important* haha
