“‘Gilligan’s Island’ star Dawn Wells is severely down on her luck — nearly $200k in the red — and she’s seeking financial aid from Gilligan fans,” reports TMZ.
The story continues, “Dawn famously played Mary Ann Summers on the iconic TV sitcom, but according to a friend who launched a GoFundMe [page] she’s desperately in need of money so she can move into an assisted care facility.”
According to the GoFundMe.com site set up for Wells, “After 2008, like many of us, Dawn suffered through the banking crash and lost everything including her life savings in addition to a life -threatening surgery which came close to killing her.
“Dawn was a victim of an unexpected accident that required hospitalization for two months and a very long time to rest and heal.
“Dawn needs $194,000 to alleviate penalties by the IRS ( which are compounded daily) and to pay her hospital costs. [Though the goal of Wells’ Go Fund site says is $180K.]
“Dawn is living one of the greatest fears we Americans have, an uncertain future. Should any of you out there wish to contribute a small some [sic] to help a woman who gave so many people Joy over the years, it would be so appreciated. God Bless.”
At presstime, in the ten days since the site has gone up, $104,887 has been raised from 2,719 contributors, which averages out to $38.57 per person.
