The new series from nine-time Emmy winner Matthew Weiner, the creator of “Mad Men,” is due out Oct. 12 on Amazon Prime Video, which released the official trailer today for the series, “The Romanoffs.” You can watch the trailer below.

New episodes will be released weekly, on Fridays, marking the first time Amazon will use the weekly rollout model for an anthology series. The first two episodes will premiere Oct. 12.

The series is created, written, directed and executive produced by Weiner, and features eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family.

“Set in seven countries around the globe, ‘The Romanoffs’ was shot on location in three continents collaborating with local productions and creative talent across Europe, the Americas, and the Far East,” Amazon notes in an announcement today. “Each story takes place in a new location with a new cast. The first episode, ‘The Violet Hour,’ stars Marthe Keller, Aaron Eckhart, Ines Melab and Louise Bourgoin and the second story, ‘The Royal We,’ stars Corey Stoll, Kerry Bishe, Janet Montgomery and Noah Wyle.”

  1. What has made Amazon and Netflix popular is the ability to binge. It will be interesting to see if taking this away with weekly releases causes an issue for Amazon.
