In the wake of her latest controversy, Megyn Kelly was off her NBC morning show this morning and is expected to remain off the air at least through this week.

Deadline quotes an NBC spokesperson saying: “Given the circumstances, ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ will be on tape the rest of the week.”

The report adds that Kelly “seeks to return to her harder news roots, after driving another nail into the coffin that is her morning show career this week defending blackface Halloween costumes.”

Deadline notes that the network ran a repeat installment of Kelly’s show Wednesday morning focusing on sleep deprivation.

“NBC News is ‘sort[ing] through this with Megyn’ as division chief Andy Lack described the situation to his staff at a town hall meeting Wednesday,” Deadline notes. “He had opened that town hall condemning her radio-active on-air remarks made during a panel chat about Halloween costumes.”

The Hollywood Reporter cites a source close to the situation saying Kelly is expected to end her morning show by the end of the current season.

“Sources tell THR that Kelly has met with network executives in recent weeks to discuss the future of the show and expressed a desire to cover more news and politics,” THR reports. “It’s unclear what NBC News would put in place of Kelly’s show. But the discussions are at least an acknowledgement that the experiment is not working and that Kelly would prefer to be covering more news as she did with the Brett Kavanaugh hearings.”

THR adds: “Kelly has grappled with hard-news topics, including the #MeToo allegations against a series of powerful men. But her show is in a typically soft daypart, and she has often seemed to chafe at the lighter requirements of the job. Kelly met with NBC News chairman Andy Lack well before the controversy over her recent blackface comments erupted. But her clumsy comments about blackface on Tuesday’s ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ — for which she apologized — have only exacerbated the situation.”
