TV’s new “Batwoman” is an actress who was a part of “Orange Is the New Black,” with the CW ordering a pilot for a new series starring “Orange” alumna Ruby Rose.
Variety notes that Rose debuted her version of Batwoman in last month’s DC Crossover episodes of “Supergirl,” “Flash” and “Arrow,” with the segments dubbed “Elseworlds.”
“’Batwoman’ is shepherded by DC TV overlord Greg Berlanti for Warner Bros. TV and was penned by ‘Vampire Diaries’ alum Caroline Dries,” Variety reports. “David Nutter, one of the industry’s most sought-after pilot helmers, is set to direct. Berlanti, Dries, Nutter, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns are exec producers.”
Variety adds: “The latest iteration of Batwoman, aka Kate Kane, is described as an out lesbian and highly trained fighter who has no trouble speaking her mind. She’s pressed into service as a crime-fighter as mayhem overruns Gotham, although Kane has to ‘overcome her own demons’ before she can save the city, per CW.”
The Australian-born Rose played Stella Carlin on “Orange,” and has also appeared in “Dark Matter” and in feature films including “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” and “xXx: Return of Xander Cage.”
