A bestselling novel by Stephen King has received a series order from CBS, where it will land on the network’s All Access digital subscription service. CBS announced today that “The Stand” was given a 10-episode order.

Josh Boone and Ben Cavell will write and executive produce the series, which will be produced by CBS Television Studios. Boone will also direct, with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller and Richard P. Rubinstein on board as executive producers, Will Weiske and Miri Yoon as co-executive producers and Owen King as producer.

“‘The Stand’ is Stephen King’s apocalyptic vision of a world decimated by plague and embroiled in an elemental struggle between good and evil,” CBS notes in today’s announcement. “The fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.”
