Long-shot contenders pulled off upsets both in the television categories and in feature films at Sunday night’s Writers Guild Awards, including a win for Bo Burnham for best original screenplay for “Eighth Grade” on the movie side.

In the television categories, the comedy/variety sketch series trophy for Comedy Central’s “Nathan for You” — which triumphed over “Saturday Night Live,” “Portlandia,” “I Love You, America” and “At Home with Amy Sedaris” — was one of a number of big surprises.

TVWeek Open Mic writer Hillary Atkin was on hand and filed a full report. To read it, and to click through to the full list of winners, please click here.
