High-Profile Journalist Quietly Exits CBS News

A TV journalist who gained a high profile on CBS News covering war-torn areas of the Middle East has quietly left the network. Variety reports that Lara Logan exited several months ago.

“The split, disclosed as the result of Logan making an appearance over the weekend on a podcast in which she suggested news consumers ought to get information from both liberal and conservative outlets, might come as a surprise to outsiders,” Variety notes. “Logan had been working for ’60 Minutes’ and gained a reputation for visiting dangerous locales in Afghanistan and Iraq, often embedded with U.S. armed forces. She joined CBS News in 2002 and had been one of the unit’s top foreign correspondents.”

The report cites a CBS News spokeswoman saying Logan left the news unit sometime in 2018.

“Her last piece for CBS News appears to be a May segment for ’60 Minutes’ about poachers slaughtering rhinoceros in South Africa,” Variety reports.

Here’s a “60 Minutes” story featuring Logan talking about reporting in Afghanistan …

  1. “The split, disclosed as the result of Logan making an appearance over the weekend on a podcast in which she suggested news consumers ought to get information from both liberal and conservative outlets, might come as a surprise to outsiders,” Variety notes.

If the above report from Variety is true, and she was fired because she suggested people keep an open mind and get information from both liberal and conservative news outlets, what does it say about CBS?

  2. CBS should rehire and promote her (and those who think like her) before the entire CBS audience is reduced to nothing but head nodders and sychophants.
