Fox Issues New Statement on Smollett Case

Feb 20, 2019  •  Post A Comment

The companies behind the Fox drama series “Empire” issued a new statement in response to reports that Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon on the series, is having his on-screen time cut back as he increasingly comes under scrutiny over his report that he was the victim of a hate crime Jan. 29 in Chicago.

“Jussie Smollett continues to be a consummate professional on set and as we have previously stated, he is not being written out of the show,” the statement today from “Empire” producer 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment says.

Since the Fox statement came out, police in Chicago have said Smollett is now officially a suspect in a criminal investigation into the case, as we reported separately.
