One of the original members of the Munster family featured on CBS’s 1960s sitcom “The Munsters” has died. Beverley Owen, who played Marilyn Munster on the show’s first 13 episodes, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019, according to media reports.

TMZ reports that Owen died at her home in Vermont after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was 81.

Owen’s character Marilyn was the teenage niece of Herman and Lily Munster (Fred Gwynn and Yvonne De Carlo). A pretty blonde, Marilyn was the “normal” one in the family — the only one who didn’t look like a monster. Owen was replaced in the role by Pat Priest, who went on to play Marilyn for the remainder of the show’s 70 episodes.

Before taking on the role of Marilyn, Owen made a number of TV appearances in guest roles on “As the World Turns,” “Wagon Train,” “The Virginian,” “Another World” and other shows.

“The Munsters” ran just two seasons on CBS, from 1964-1966, but had a lasting impact. The series was followed by a sequel, “The Munsters Today,” which ran in syndication from 1988-1991. The original series also inspired a number of TV specials, and continues to air in syndication.
