Gayle King’s explosive interview this week with R. Kelly on “CBS This Morning,” in which the embattled R&B singer became agitated as he defended himself against sexual abuse allegations, is shining a spotlight on King, who managed to keep her composure throughout the heated interview. You can watch a clip of the interview below.

“King proved unflappable as a crying Kelly leaped up in anger,” the AP reports. “In the excerpt aired on ‘CBS This Morning’ on Wednesday, she didn’t flinch from challenging the singer as he denied multiple allegations that he sexually abused underage girls and was controlling in his relationships. She drew praise for her performance.”

CBS has announced that it will air a 60-minute special focusing on the interview this Friday in prime time.

Commenting on Twitter, Yamiche Alcindor, White House correspondent for PBS’s “NewsHour,” wrote: “Gayle King is again teaching a master’s class in interviewing. She remains so calm and focused while @rkelly loses it.”

The AP notes: “Kelly was out on bail following his Feb. 22 arrest in Chicago on charges of sexually abusing three girls and a woman (he was sent back to jail Wednesday afternoon over unpaid child support bills). Legal attention was refocused on Kelly following Lifetime’s documentary special ‘Surviving R. Kelly.’”

  1. Actually, Gayle King is teaching a Master Class on promotion, both self and Corporate. On the same day as we discovered that North Korea was likely starting up its missile testing operations (a Serious Danger, some would say), the once-Tiffany (now Tin Can)Network News operation had shoved that aside in favor of pushing chunks of the interview with this deviant, clearly sick, sociopath. Does CBS News REALLY believe this matters?? Well, if your Morning Broadcast is 3rd, your EVENING NEWS is in the toilet, and sales are down.. it’s a no-brainer. What happens to R.Kelly will affect millions of Americans !!! Oh, and just a day or so before, King’s people were trying to amp up her contract talks by fueling speculation that maybe she would leave the morning show. But wait, there’s more. Thanks to the programming bosses we’ll even get a prime time special from this. Wow, can’t wait. Although, there are some good COLUMBO reruns on opposite this extravaganza. And perhaps PBS needs to show Ms. Alcindor some examples of the really great interviewers of TV. Gayle King ain’t among them.
