The Fate of ABC’s ‘Roseanne’ Replacement ‘The Conners’ Just Got a Little More Certain

ABC is one step closer to a decision on whether to bring back its “Roseanne” replacement series, “The Conners.”

In an exclusive on Deadline, Nellie Andreeva reports that “The last missing piece in ‘The Conners’ main cast puzzle has fallen into place.”

“I have learned that ‘The Conners’ co-star Lecy Goranson has closed a deal to return for the upcoming second season of the multi-camera family comedy, whose official pickup is expected as early as this week,” Andreeva reports. “Goranson joins fellow ‘Roseanne’ alums Sara Gilbert, who also serves as an executive producer on ‘The Conners,’ John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf, who also just closed new agreements.”

Andreeva adds: “Like the other three ‘Conners’ stars, I hear Goranson scored a substantial salary bump from Season 1 to Season 2 and a piece of the series’ backend. No one is commenting but I hear the pay for Goranson, who started lower but has become a fan favorite, will go up to around $165,000 an episode in Season 2.”

The show’s renewal seems all but certain, with Andreeva calling it “a no-brainer for ABC.” The show’s second season is expected to consist of 13 episodes.

  1. ABC can’t admit they did the wrong thing despite plummeting ratings.

  2. I think new content faces challenges with all the sources of media, almost making TV irrelevant. TV tied media knows it, as they continue to work in streaming and downloadable content, and attempts to reinvent themselves as relevant in a modern way. I’m not sure “ratings” mean anything anyway. I like the show. I think it is clever and still looks at a real looking example of “poor” struggling people in our country. Not all. Nut fully diversified, but relevant. Rosanne missed a chance to reel herself in (her crazy rhetoric is what killed her) and be a voice on the show that is no longer represented. That is a shame. I miss her part, but it works without her. She’s all sour grapes now. Move on Rosie
