Likely Cause Identified in Notre Dame Cathedral Fire

Police investigators in Paris believe the fire that heavily damaged the Notre Dame Cathedral was most likely caused by an electrical short-circuit, the AP reports, citing a police official.

“A judicial police official told The Associated Press that investigators made an initial assessment of the cathedral Wednesday but don’t have a green light to search Notre Dame’s charred interior because of ongoing safety hazards,” the AP reports. “The cathedral’s fragile walls were being shored up with wooden planks, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak by name about an ongoing investigation.”

Investigators continue to believe Monday’s fire was accidental, and have been questioning workers who were involved in renovations at the site along with cathedral staff.

“The police official would not comment on an unsourced report in Le Parisian newspaper that investigators are looking at whether the fire could have been linked to a computer glitch or the temporary elevators used in the renovation work, among other things,” the AP reports. “The prosecutor’s office said only that ‘all leads must be explored.’”

The report notes that the cathedral will be closed to the public for years.

  1. idiotic assesment from a person who does not undestand what a “computer glitch” is. a computer glitch can not cause a fire, bad wiring connections sure, but its like the cpu was sparking fire bc of bad code :ROLLEYS:
