Wave of Cancellations and Renewals Hits Broadcast Nets

May 10, 2019  •  Post A Comment

On the last Friday before the broadcast networks begin their upfront presentations, activity picked up on both the cancellation front and the renewal front.

The Futon Critic notes that the early wave of canceled shows included “The Fix,” “The Kids Are Alright,” “Splitting Up Together” and “Speechless” at ABC; “The Cool Kids” and “The Passage” at Fox; and “I Feel Bad” at NBC.

Fox also reportedly canceled “Lethal Weapon.”

As we reported previously, ABC also pulled the plug on the Shondaland drama series “For the People.”

Renewals were picking up momentum this afternoon too. Following up on ABC’s renewals for the Shondaland dramas “Grey’s Anatomy,” “How to Get Away With Murder” and “Station 19,” which we reported previously, ABC was especially busy renewing shows today.

ABC reportedly renewed “Bless This Mess,” “The Rookie” and “Single Parents” for second seasons. Additionally, the network picked up “American Housewife” for season four and “Fresh Off the Boat” for season six. And it almost goes without saying that the Alphabet Network renewed its reality franchise shows “Dancing With the Stars” and “The Bachelor.”

CBS, meanwhile, renewed the Matt LeBlanc series “Man With a Plan” for a fourth season.

  1. You suck abc. The Kids are Alright and Solitting Up Together were two of the best freshman shows you had on this year. #disappointed

  2. We love “The Kids Are Alright.” What a shame. To add to my disgust, a number of sitcoms we tired of quickly have been renewed.

  3. The Passage will always feel incomplete now.

  4. “Bless This Mess” is overrated!!

  5. for the people and passage were great shows. and now they are cancelled. I am going to quit watching tv. you get interested in a series and you look forward to seeing the next episode every week and zapped they are cancelled.

  6. The Kids are Alright deserves another look by someone. This cast is way too funny to pull! Please, some network keep this show alive!
