“Jeopardy!” champion James Holzhauer, whose stunning run on the brainy TV game show ended earlier this month after he chalked up 33 wins and almost $2.5 million in winnings, recently paid tribute to the show’s longtime host, Alex Trebek.
NBC News reports that Holzhauer made a donation to a pancreatic research walk in honor of Trebek, who has been battling the disease. Trebek announced in May that he was in “near remission.”
Holzhauer reportedly donated $1,109.14, to the Naperville Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk in Naperville, Ill., where he used to live. The donation was accompanied by the message, “For Alex Trebek and all the other survivors.”
The amount reflects Holzhauer’s daughter Natasha’s birthday, Nov. 9, 2014, echoing some of the unusual wagers he made during his “Jeopardy!” run to end up with specific meaningful figures.
