Quick Cancellation for Drama Series

Jun 6, 2019  •  Post A Comment

A drama series that just rolled out last week has already received word that it won’t be picked up for a second season. Deadline reports that DC’s digital service DC Universe has decided not to renew “Swamp Thing.”

The series is based on the DC characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightsonm with the TV adaptation coming from James Wan’s Atomic Monster in association with Warner Bros. Television.

The report notes that DC Universe is among the company initiatives being re-evaluated in the wake of the AT&T acquisition of Time Warner as WarnerMedia. The company is keen on launching a new streaming platform, and Deadline notes that “there have been questions how DC Universe fits into those plans.”

The cancellation comes just one episode into “Swamp Thing’s” run, Deadline notes, adding that things were already looking less than rosy when the show’s order was cut from 13 episodes to 10 back in April.

The series starred Virginia Madsen, Crystal Reed, Henderson Wade and Andy Bean.

  1. Being a fan of the original comic book series, I was pleasantly surprised by the 1st episode that I had watched and was looking forward to the entire season. This streaming TV series started off with a great cast, great story, great effects, etc. It is exactly a series like this that would keep me subscribing to the DC Universe. The cancellation of this show will certainly make me question that continued subscription.

Hopefully, someone else will pick up this series? I will definitely be watching the 2nd episode tonight.
