A comedy series that has chalked up awards, critical acclaim and a loyal following since it premiered in 2014 is hoping to go out on a high note with a “musicale” series finale. Amazon Prime Video released a trailer over the weekend for the series finale of “Transparent,” which (SPOILER ALERT) also deals with the death of a major character.

The two-hour series finale arrives Sept. 27. You can watch the official trailer below.

“Since 2014, audiences have been transfixed by ‘Transparent,’ sharing the lives of the Pfeffermans after their parent comes out as a transgender woman named Maura,” Amazon says in a promotional blurb with the release of the trailer. “Ex-wife Shelly and their three kids grapple with their own secrets, relationships, and identities. This groundbreaking, Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning comedy has heart and humor while championing themes of love and acceptance.”

The series has been a fixture at the Primetime Emmys, racking up 28 nominations and eight wins since 2015, including two trophies for Jeffrey Tambor in the lead role of Maura Pfefferman. As the trailer reveals, Maura has been killed off.

As we reported previously, Tambor was fired from “Transparent” in early 2018 over allegations of sexual misconduct.
