“My heart ? is full of gratitude to all of you for rockin’ with us every season. You made us HBO’s highest rated comedy for years, and most importantly you helped create and sustain a platform for other actors to have the OPPORTUNITY to work hard, grow and become household names. To me, the opportunity ‘Ballers’ created for so many others, is the real gold of our show. I love you and enjoy our final season of ‘Ballers,’” which begins Sunday.

Thus reads an Instagram message sent out on Thursday night by Dwayne Johnson, who is both the star and executive producer of “Ballers.”

Notes Variety, “Created by Stephen Levinson, ‘Ballers’ explores the world of pro football through a group of past and present players striving to stay in the game.”

Variety adds, “‘Ballers’ is the latest big HBO show to sign off in 2019, following ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Veep’ earlier this year. Its ending marks a continued time of change at HBO, as both ‘The Deuce’ and ‘Silicon Valley’ are also calling it quits after their third and sixth seasons respectively.” Furthermore, there have been a number of executive changes at HBO since AT&T bought the company last year.
