A couple of big-name actors are on board a new Watergate project, with G. Gordon Liddy to be played by Justin Theroux while Woody Harrelson takes on the role of E. Howard Hunt. The project is “The White House Plumbers,” a five-episode limited series in the works at HBO.
Variety reports that Harrelson and Theroux will executive produce along with starring in the series.
“’Veep’ writers and executive producers Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck created the series and will executive produce,” Variety notes. “’Veep’ showrunner David Mandel will executive produce and direct all five episodes.”
The project is a co-production of HBO and wiip. Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad will executive produce for The District along with Paul Lee and Nne Ebong for wiip. “Succession” executive producer Frank Rich will also executive produce.
Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming, is quoted saying: “We’re excited to bring together such a talented team to take on this fascinating look at the internal machinations that brought down the Nixon White House,” said Casey Bloys, president of HBO Programming. “We’re especially happy to welcome both Woody and Justin back to HBO and are looking forward to getting started.”
