Senate Upholds Media Ownership Bar

The Senate continued to try to curb concentration of media-company ownership by voting to block a Federal Communications Commission decision to loosen a rule preventing cross-ownership of broadcast and newspaper companies, Broadcasting & Cable reports. B&C quotes Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota as saying media conglomerates harm local news and diversity.

  1. It is refreshing to read that somebody inside the Beltway wants to block the horrible sweep of our media by a handful of mega-media corporations.
    The future of our democracy is at stake. Freedom of information flow and diverse opinions are necessary, or we can throw the Constitution out with the trash.
    I’m a capitalist, but I’m a citizen first.
    The Greed Factor has seeped into areas where it does not belong…not every decision has to be dictated by profititability and mass ownership coupled with the silencing of opposing thought.
