Economy, Strike Keeping Weak Series on Air

Many TV shows that in normal years would have been cancelled are getting pickups from the broadcast networks this TV season because of the struggling economy, the Hollywood Reporter says, citing several network sources who chose to remain anonymous. “Knight Rider” and “Private Practice” recently received back-nine orders even though their ratings have been modest by traditional standards. Some of the recently picked-up shows are considered “among the best of the worst” in terms of ratings, a situation further exacerbated by small pool of potential midseason replacements caused by the writers strike earlier this year, the trade says.

  1. Wake up SAG. Stop the BS. ENOUGH.

  2. I don’t buy this.
Why would a network stick with a low-rated drama in a bad economy when virtually any game or reality show is orders of magnitude cheaper to produce?
Likewise, NBC could easily can Knight Rider in favor of the return of fare like TV’s Most Embarrassing Moments.
