The recession has come to Wisteria Lane and other primetime addresses as television shows deal with foreclosures, unemployment and other issues, the New York Times says. “If everyone in America is thinking about it, that means every writer in Hollywood is thinking about it,” “Housewives” creator Marc Cherry tells the paper. “I know people tune in to ‘Desperate Housewives’ for a bit of escapism and a bit of fun. But here you have fairly well-off people living in a fairly well-off neighborhood, and this time the financial crisis is hitting everyone.”
