Paula Abdul on Tuesday night’s “American Idol” compared contestant Adam Lambert to Olympic champion Michael Phelps, the Associated Press reports. She told the 27-year-old that listening to him sing is “like watching the Olympics and you’re our Michael Phelps,” the news service says. Lambert’s popularity makes it likely he’ll be in the final competition to win the show, the AP says.

I would really hate to be a judge right about now. I thought the five you had were terrific, but now Matt was dismissed the judging gets tougher.
