‘The Young & the Restless’ Gets Two-Year Renewal, But Producers Told to Cut Costs

Aug 6, 2009  •  Post A Comment

While CBS has issued a warning about the future of As the World Turns, the top-rated soap opera for the network, The Young & the Restless, has been given a two-year renewal, according to SoapCentral.com.

The renewal came with strings attached, the report said. Producers for the number one Nielsen rated daytime drama have been told to trim the budget and cut production costs. Steve Mosko, Sony Pictures Television president, met with cast and crew to announce the renewal, as well as to explain that a cut in the soap’s licensing fee may result in reduced salaries and job losses.

  1. To cut costs, fire the present writers on Y & R.. the fans will work for free to bring this “soap opera” back to the award winning show it use to be.. Do the producers know how many fans no longer watch the show?? We all go to one of the on line sites to read about it, in the hopes that they will stop the trashing of what was a good show.. Wondering if giving good actors ridiculous story lines is a ploy to get them to quit… therefore cutting the budget. Please someone save Y & R. Thanks for listening.

  4. AMEN TO EVERYTHING YOU SAID. FIRE THE WRITERS. THE SHOW HAS GONE FROM THE BEST TO ALMOST THE WORST. I PREDICT ACTORS WILL LEAVE BECAUSE THEY ARE ASHAMED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE WAY THE SHOW IS WRITTEN & PRODUCED.

  7. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
