Will Mobile Help Save Local TV?

Local TV broadcasters in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere are hoping that a new mobile TV technology will provide a boost to their sagging fortunes, The New York Times reports.

In April, eight local D.C. stations will start broadcasting in the new mobile format that works with portable TVs, as well as cellphones and laptops with adapters. Some 30 stations nationwide have installed the signal equipment.

Dennis Wharton, a spokesman for the National Association of Broadcasters, predicted the mobile technology “will provide a renaissance for over-the-air broadcast TV.”
