Epix, the movie channel that started in October, has signed a new national distribution contract that will double the fledgling network’s reach, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Epix has signed the distribution deal with the Dish Network. Dish, with 14.1 million customers, plans to offer the network as part of a high-definition package.
The deal means that Epix will reach 30 million homes. Epix, which is aiming to break even in 2011, is a venture from Hollywood movie studios Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc., which are aiming to compete with premium networks such as HBO and Showtime. It also has an online component.
