Actors Unions May Be Ready to Talk Marriage

May 7, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists may be ready to negotiate merging, the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog reports.

According to a message in the SAG magazine, relations between the two unions have significantly improved and union leaders are talking about the potential for merging. "Of course, the defining reason to form a single union is clear: Our bargaining power is increased if we cannot be divided. If we give our employers only one outlet for the skilled performers they need, we can maximize our ability to secure strong compensation and protections for the work we do," the message read. Still, a process for merging hasn’t yet been agreed upon, and a majority of both guilds’ members would have to endorse the plan.
