ABC News icon and the host of "The View" Barbara Walters announced on the show Monday that she is going into the hospital for open heart surgery, reports AccessHollywood.com.

Walters, 80, explained the situation, saying, “You know how healthy I have been – never missed a day’s work. Later this week, I am going to have surgery to replace one faulty heart valve," she said.

Walters will need two months to recover from the procedure and she will call into "The View" on occasion, but is not going to be sitting on set.
