Will Eliot Spitzer Replace Campbell Brown on CNN?

May 21, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Eliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York who left amid a prostitution scandal, has been working hard to revive his image, restyling himself as a TV pundit and even standing in for MSNBC anchor Dylan Ratigan.

That hasn’t gone unnoticed by CNN, which has held informal conversations with Spitzer about becoming a contributor to its prime-time line-up after Campbell Brown resigned, the New York Times’ Media Decoder blog reports.

But the discussions don’t involve Spitzer becoming an anchor. Instead, Spitzer would become a regular contributor to the cable news channel, which is suffering in the ratings. CNN may introduce a panel discussion program with a range of political voices to replace Brown’s program.

MSNBC declined to comment on Spitzer’s role at its network, although the channel isn’t in negotiations with him about a paid role at the MSNBC.

Speculation about Spitzer moving to CNN even made it into David Letterman’s monologue on Tuesday, with the punch line: “That would be a switch — somebody paying him for an hour.”

  1. Why would anybody in broadcasting hire this lying, cheating putz? Has everybody forgotten that he got his last government position on the backs of broadcasters by creating a witch-hunt for payola in New York?

  2. cnn is that hard up

  3. Is cnn that hard up!

  4. Is cnn that hard up!

  5. I think it would be great for CNN to hire him and let him recover his image. so, he made a boo-boo. the chick was hot—ooops? i’ve made some mistakes, lost control because the girl was so damn hot. I’m human too. so what? Most politicians are just salesmen anyway. if they’re not preaching moral values, they’re out slapping a stripper on the ass and partying it up anyway. It would be cool to hear the perspective of somebody who used to be in the political game, but isn’t anymore. maybe he’d have less of a political agenda and more honesty?

  6. …and one more thing. at least he paid for quality. didn’t the chick appear in playboy recently? this is way more respectable than hugh grant picking up that fat, nasty street walker years ago instead of going home to elizabeth hurley. UNBELIEVABLE! he’s still making movies. where’s the outrage with his situation? What? He’s got a British accent so it’s all ok?

  7. …and how about Bill Clinton? people still love him even though he fooled around with cigars in new and interesting ways. what is a politician? it’s often a guy crazy enough to want to be in the public scrutiny 24/7 who has to cut loose in order to mentally handle his fast-paced psychotic lifestyle. I bet Bill paid for it at some point in his life. fast living man…what’s the difference between Spitzer and many other politicians? Spitzer got caught! I think it would be fine for the public to cut him some slack now. Or, maybe the stupid american public needs to see some contrived come-to-Jesus interview where he sheds crocodile tears so that the masses forgive him (isn’t that what goofball Jesse James is doing right now?)

  8. Was CNN wearing their stocks when they jumped into bed with Spitzer? CNN has now join the racks of ENRON, AIG, etc….

  9. Whether true or not, former Gov. Spitzer was, and I believe still is, essentially a good man with flaws like the rest of us. He would have made a great governor, had a good ethical compass when it came to what mattered most – equity and fairness – and is ten times smarter than the best politicians out there. We all deserve a second chance and we should not be denied his talents for public service.
