"Life on Mars" star Jason O’Mara is in discussions to take on a lead role on the series produced by Steven Spielberg and Peter Chernin and slated for mid-season on Fox, reports Nellie Andreeva on Deadline.com.

O’Mara would take the role of Jim Shannon, a father in the year 2149 who goes back in time with his family to prehistoric Earth to join a human colony seeking to start civilization afresh on the highly anticipated series "Terra Nova."

His hiring would mark the first role cast for the project. O’Mara would also be taking his second part as a time-traveling leading man, after his character in "Life on Mars" was transported from 2008 to 1973.
